The city of Lezha-Qender The prefecture region with the same name is located in northwestern Albania, near the Adriatic Sea. The city was founded in 385 BC by Dionysius of Sirakuza. Throughout the periods, the city of Lezha has played a special role in the history of Illyrian-Albanian. The geographical position where the city lies, together with its surroundings, has made Lezha, since ancient times, one of the most important commercial and military centers. Lezha, through the Port of Shengjin, has for centuries experienced numerous exchanges in different economic and cultural fields with the outside world, thus influencing so much in social development. This is one of the reasons that in this city, at certain moments of our history are organized high-level cultural activities of the highest national level, such as the "League of Lezha" in 1444, "Arbër Assembly" in 1703.
It is also documented that this town, since the early VIII century BC, has been inhabited by unrest from the Illyrian-Albanian population. So, the city of Lezha, even before returning to a Hellenic colony from Dionysius of Sirakuza, is proved as an Illyrian settlement. Lissuss's economic life in ancient times has been influenced by the fact that it has been a hub of the Shengjin-Kosovo highway, a road that crossed the streets of Kukës and beyond. After the Roman occupation, Lissussi was mentioned as "Municip", continuing to preserve the same military and administrative value as a naval base in the Adriatic. The name of the city is mentioned by Greek and Latin historians before the new era; It is mentioned in the Venetian chronicles when it was in the domination of Saint Mark, to take special importance in the 15th century, when our National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti - "Skenderbeu" gathered here the first Assembly of Albanian Princes and established the state First on the basis of principals.
