Although the town of Skenderaj has no long history of its founding and naming, its history is unknown precisely because it has not been studied seriously by Albanian historians or intellectuals. However, as far as it is known from the plethora of researches, it is seen that the history of this city is unusual since the naming initiative, its very name and its founding. Until the beginning of XX century in Drenica there was no city or administrative center. Nevertheless, the city today called Skenderaj was not founded as the will or the need of the inhabitants of this area, and much less of economic development, but was established as an attempt by the occupiers of the time to strengthen their power in this rebellious region or Need to create a new settlement for the colonists brought.The first attempt to establish a new locality had made the Ottoman Empire when, at the end of the 19th century, the construction of an administrative center in this region had begun, but was opposed and impossible by Albanian local insurgents. Meanwhile, 34 years later, the other conqueror, First Yugoslavia, had begun creating a new locality, primarily for the purpose of settling the Slav colonists who had brought them from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Croatia. Later, in 1931, Deviçi and the Drenica district headquarters were moved to this locality.
All of these have not been the subject of any thorough study of our historians, except for any cursory script. Nezir Çitaku, is the only historian who has seriously dealt with the history of the town of Skenderaj in his book "Drenica for centuries" published in Ulqin in mid-2007. The leaders of Drenica give the idea of the name, the High Gate begins the construction of Saraj (Hamidia).
